Who Are We?
The Essex Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Group is here to help significantly improve the quality of life of people who have multiple sclerosis.
The Group was set up 20 years ago (attaining charity status in 2003) by Elaine Bosley, MS nurse at Basildon & Orsett Hospitals, together with Dr Rudy Capildeo, Consultant Neurologist, Researcher and specialist interest in MS, to keep those living with MS as physically well and mobile as possible through regular exercise and massage.
“Having been privileged enough to be involved in the management and care of persons affected by MS for almost 23 years now – and although there is still no cure – I believe a lot can be done to manage the condition and improve their quality of life.
It is our belief and commitment that all persons who attend here – no matter what age, length of diagnosis, or hopelessness they may feel – should not be overlooked, or not given hope for some improvement. Over the years, many times their hopes for ‘wellness and normality’ has often been crushed by the thoughtless comments and actions of others.
“We do no harm in remaining positive – keeping our hopes – and do not let them be crushed with negativity”
Come along to the MSTG for exercise, massage and to chat to people in the same situation. Give yourself a lift – and have fun!! You’ll be very welcome and make new friends!
What We Do
Sessions provide exercise therapy from qualified instructors, who are specially trained to deal with neurological conditions such as MS, including:
- Specialist exercise
- Symptom management
- Nutritional/diet advice
Massage and reflexology sessions run alongside the fitness sessions.
The instructors knowledge and understanding of the disease, and the invaluable network of information and support provided, manages to keep the majority of us from being seen as out-patients so often, therefore saving NHS funds and consultant time.
We believe we are a unique group offering vital services to care, assist and maintain health and fitness to those suffering with MS. The group provides invaluable advice and support, not only to MS patients but to their families and carers too.
- Group or individual exercise sessions
- Gym equipment
- Flowtron Boot
- Heated Gloves
- Wellness/symptom management
